A long-lived ridge of high pressure, combined with long-term Arctic warming
(especially at the beginning and end of winter) brought notable warmth to the Arctic
and Alasks. Anchorage, Alasks had its latest first freeze ever. In fact, much of
the northern continental United States experienced freezing temperatures prior to
Anchorage in fall 2018.
Above-normal precipitation appeared in southwestern Australia, bringing Some
relief to the drought
The sunny streak continued in France, with higher than normal sunshine spreading
to many other Central and Eastern European countries
